The official inauguration of Cimbi was on February 9, 2006 at 14:00 in auditorium 1 at Rigshospitalet.

The official part of the program consisted of speeches by a number of prominent speakers including the director of Rigshospitalet, Jørgen Jørgensen, the head of research at the Lundbeck Foundation, Erik Juhl, the rector at Copenhagen University, Ralf Hemmingsen and the vice-director of the board of the Copenhagen Hospital Cooperation H:S, Margit Ørsted. Following these speeches, the director of Cimbi, Gitte Moos Knudsen presented the background for Cimbi and the ambitious research plan that the center has undertaken.

After the official part of the program, refreshments were served at a reception hosted by the Rigshospitalet.
